4. THE GLOBAL PICTURE
The Transatlantic Community Foundation Network (TCFN) was created in 1999 to promote the development of community foundations on both sides of the Atlantic, and particularly in parts of Europe and North America where the community foundation concept was just beginning to take root. It is a learning community comprised of four dozen community foundations and support organizations from close to a dozen countries. The Network has produced a series of free resources targeted to emerging and developing community foundations. In 2006, The Community Foundation for Ireland joined the network. Tina Roche, Chief Executive is an ambassador for the movement.
From small beginnings in Cleveland, Ohio in 1914, the Community Foundation movement has grown to become a leading global force for philanthropy in the 21st century.
