The Philanthropist of the Year Awards

These awards which are run by The Community Foundation for Ireland on an annual basis aim to recognise extraordinary individuals who have shown outstanding leadership in the area of personal philanthropy and who, through their giving, have made a remarkable difference in bringing about sustainable social change.

The awards are divided into three categories Local, National and International Philanthropist of the Year. Each year the Community Foundation seeks nominations from community, voluntary and charity groups around the country which may wish to recognise an outstanding patron who has helped their cause over the years.

Previous winners of the awards include JP Mc Manus, Declan Ryan and Chantal Mc Cabe who all won National Philanthropist of the Year Awards from 2006-2009 respectively.

Other winners have included, Niall Mellon of The Township Trust, Jane Corboy of The Next Step and John Clarke of Friends in Ireland who all won International Philanthropist of the Year.

We introduced the award for Local philanthropist in 2007 and as such have had two winners to date and these were Cathal Mc Carthy from Co Monaghan and Ralph Parkes from Limerick.
