30 March 2010The Importance of Charitable Bequests in Developing Irish Philanthropy 30 March 2010
At this event The Community Foundation for Ireland launched a new report on research into legacies and charitable giving in Ireland.
Key findings from the report entitled "Realising the Power and Potential of Charitable Bequests in Developing Irish Philanthropy" included:
- Less than 5% of charities’ income comes from donations in wills
- One in three people make a will and of these on average 13% include a donation to a charity or a foundation.
- Women one and half times more likely than men to leave portion of estate to charity
The event which was kindly hosted by Arthur Cox Solicitors took place on March 30 and was presented to an audience of more than 50 professional advisors. Speaking at the event were Karen Cieselski, Fundraising Officer with The Irish Council for Civil Liberties (ICCL), she represented and spoke about Legacy Promotion Ireland, a consortium of over 40 leading Irish charities. We were also delighted that Edel Hargaden from Arthur Cox presented recent trends in the probate area from the perspective of a solicitor.
This event was in association with The European Association of Philanthropic Giving.
