The Community Foundation for Ireland Calls on Government to Support Philanthropy

01 March 2010 | In News

Speaking as a voice for donors and future philanthropists, The Community Foundation for Ireland expressed dismay after the 2010 Finance Bill was published in February. We need government to really get behind philanthropy in Ireland to help us develop a giving culture. One mechanism to help is the tax laws. We had hoped that reliefs for charitable giving would be decoupled from other business reliefs this year as was recommended by The Commission on Taxation report in 2009. Retaining this is simply short-sighted and lacking a strategic approach to growing philanthropy in Ireland” says Tina Roche, Chief Executive of The Community Foundation. “To make matters worse, not only did they not decouple, they have reduced reliefs and worsened the situation.”
