Dame Stephanie Shirley Addresses Event on Women in Philanthropy Today in Dublin

22 June 2010 | In News

The Community Foundation for Ireland and Philanthropy Ireland, today, held a very successful event on Women in Philanthropy. This was to follow on from our landmark event in April entitled “The Power and Potential of Women in Philanthropy” which gave many women in Ireland a strong introduction to philanthropy and what can be achieved. Today’s event focused more on the practical aspect of giving and how someone can actually get involved in the act of philanthropy. We were delighted today to have the UK’s first Ambassador for Philanthropy Dame Stephanie Shirley speaking at the event and imparting her wisdom on how she began to engage with philanthropy and her learnings from her many years involved in the area.

Sandara Kelso-Robb, Executive Director of the Lloyds TSB Foundation for Northern Ireland also passed on her knowledge and learnings about ‘Giving Circles’ which really captured the imagination of the audience and inspired people to consider setting up Giving Circles amongst their peers.

Tina Roche, our CEO also gave an update on The Women's Fund for Ireland and its progress to date and examples of some projects that we intend to support through this fund. To find out more about the fund please see here.

Please see here to view Sandara’s presentation from the day and see below for a video of Dame Stephanie Shirley’s presentation.

Thanks to all who attended and who provided an atmosphere of sharing and learning. We look forward to seeing you all again soon.
