Leave a Legacy
People can include the Community Foundation for Ireland in their will and help to establish a permanent charitable fund for the community, their county or for any other important causes of concern.
When a donor includes The Community Foundation in a will, they can help strengthen the communities and causes they care most about.
As a professional advisor you can help your clients to take a strategic and impactful approach by considering The Community Foundation as an option for their will. The unique approach that we take ensures that your client’s interests and wishes can be fully complied with. Unlike other organisations and charities, The Community Foundation has few thematic and no geographic limitations.
How we can help
- To help your client decide on how best to make a strategic impact in their will, we can arrange a confidential, no obligation discussion in order to understand what cause(s) they could contribute to beyond their lifetime. Our staff has an extensive range of contacts throughout the community, charity and voluntary sector here in Ireland, ensuring we can match donors’ interests with suitable projects in the community deserving support.
- Clients can elect to create a fund established for the cause(s) they value most, setting out the manner in which they wish their charitable intentions to be fulfilled. The Foundation will fully honour their wishes in the years ahead, and donors can remain anonymous if they so wish. They could also specify that the money be for a named fund, e.g. ‘The John Murphy Fund for the Environment’.
- Clients could allocate a portion of their estate to establish a family charitable fund as a way of passing on values and of helping to maintain the family bond through philanthropy.
- Alternatively, a simpler, but equally effective approach is to bequest our own Permanent Endowment Fund, which we use to make grants to charities and community groups around the country through our Grassroots Grants Scheme. By adding to the endowment Fund this will help us ensure that whatever social challenges we face in the future, our Board and expert grant making committees will have the capacity to respond to those challenges.
